Värttinä will play concert this Sunday during WOMEX exhibition in Thessaloniki, Greece and this will be the last gig for singer Johanna Hytti (Virtanen). According to the Finnish Anna magazine, Hytti informed that the majority of the band members decided to remove her from the Värttinä. She notified about it, late Summer this year, on one of the band’s meeting. The record company Rockadillo of Värttinä notified the Finnish News Agency on Thursday, that company or the band does not comment on Anna’s magazine piece of news before the concert and prize division on Sunday in Greece are over. In the Anna’s interview Hytti talks about deceiving and the burn-out which has led to it after what happened. “I want to mention that Susan (…) has been my support during this whole crisis.” – Johanna said. Aho comment shortly “This is really annoying story”. Mari Kaasinen refuse to comment anything.
Johanna Hytti (Virtanen) joined Värttinä in 2001, sung and composed almost 12 years. She studied Folk Music at the Central Ostrobothnian Conservatory in Kokkola and Master of Music degree at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department in Helsinki. She is also harmonium, kantele and 2-row accordion player. Now Johanna is a professional vocal teacher and is specialized in childbirth singing. Fans of Värttinä heard her sensitive voice first time on „Iki” album in 2003. From this album came the most famous Värttinä’s ballad “Tuulen tunto” solo by Johanna.
“The band is a job but at the same time it is like the children’s playground. There one can say that I do not want to play with you any more. (…)” – Johanna clarified.
